CRUFC U15 39 - 27 Huntingdon
Cambridge 39 - 27 Huntingdon
Cambridge started the
better with the forwards dominating the early exchanges. Some quality
pod work by the forwards led to an early try for Cambridge with Archie
Miller driving over the line well supported by Sam Walker. From the
restart and a scrum deep inside the Cambridge 22 the ball was recycled
to Luke Mulley who using the conditions to great affect sent the ball
back into the Huntingdon 22. Some excellent running by Felix Rathbone
pressured the Stags 15 into a mistake which James Smith capitalised on
to score under the posts which he then duly converted.
Cambridge continued to pressure with some particularly strong running
from Robbie Murdoch and the first quarter came to an end with Cambridge
on top 12 - 0.
With a full squad to select from the
coaches made wholesale changes for the second quarter and the Cambridge
pressure continued with a storming run from Luca Williams leading to an
offload to Hugo Chambre who beat two tackles before offloading to Alvin
Gardner to run in from 20 metres. 17 - 0.
From the
restart Luca Williams took control and set off another strong run with
support from Sam Copeland driving the Stags back into their own 22. A
penalty against Huntingdon for offside saw Oli Venni take a quick tap
and go offloading to Hugo Chambre to dive over the line for his 1st and
Cambridge's 4th. 22 - 0.
A series of penalties conceded
by Cambridge allowed Huntingdon back into game and a well taken try in
the corner following some fine work by the Huntingdon forwards. A fine
effort with the conversion saw the ball strike the crossbar before
bouncing onto the post and out - it deserved more. 22 - 5
Huntingdon started to use the conditions to their benefit and pegged
Cambridge back in their own 22 with some excellent kicking which
resulted in another try for Huntingdon under the posts. Following the
conversion Cambridge led 22 - 12.
The penalty count
continued to rise against Cambridge with the referee penalising
Cambridge for not binding at the scrum and taking their time to set.
Despite the penalty count Cambridge continued to pressure Huntingdon and
following a great steal from Luca, Hugo was on hand to receive the pass
and ran in under the posts for his 2nd and to end the second quarter 27
- 12.
Further changes for the 3rd quarter and
Cambridge used the wind at their backs effectively and pegged Huntingdon
back in their own 22. A scrum to Cambridge 5 metres out saw Hugo pick
up and drive over for his 3rd try. 32-12
From the kick
off Cambridge continued to pressure the Huntingdon line and following
some good rucking the ball was kicked on for Hugo to cap a fine
performance with another try which was converted by Sam Segameglio.
39-12.
Another strong quarter from Cambridge but will need to reduce the penalty and free kick count.
Huntingdon came out for the final quarter fired up and used the
conditions to their advantage with their forwards contributing 3 fine
tries to peg the score back to 39-27.
Congratulations to both teams for a committed performance played in a good spirit in difficult conditions.
