What a Week

You will all be aware by now that some major changes took place at the club last week. To maintain financial stability the committee took the decision to take the club to an amateur playing basis with effect from 1st February. With regret this lead to the departure of our Director of Rugby and head coach Bob Crooks, as well as a number of senior players.

Not all players are paid and some of those who are do have other jobs which meant we could keep a core of the side together and bring in some of the exciting prospects from the Wanderers.

After all the turmoil the boys put on their best performance of the season at Volac Park and what a reception they got. After the game the players relaxed upstairs and a few beers helped as well. To cap off the day my grand daughter arrived into this world at 8pm and by the end of the evening I was pretty relaxed as well!

Former Cambridge player Glen Remnant has offered his services and will manage the team to end of the season.

Andy Long is still in contact with the club and was thrilled with Saturdays result. He hopes to help the boys prepare for the Fylde game but his wife is expecting soon, please hang on Mrs.L.

What’s next?

We need to recruit and retain players. We need to cover their expenses and the cost of fuel is the biggest issue. Danny Hunter has a list of those who need assistance and if you can help please contact Danny on This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

Debenture Seats

To keep to the business plan we need to have 50 debenture seats renewed this month. Thank you to all those who have pledged to renew so far and if you don’t have one then now’s the time to buy. These represent good value and are a tangible way to support the club. (Contact the secretary)

The Future

Next season looks like we will be playing National 1 rugby unless there is a miracle from those in the relegation zone. Whatever happens it will be expenses only and the club will have a small budget set aside for that. We will continue with our Community Coaching programme which goes from strength to strength and does provide paid employment for some of the players.

Our development work with Wanderers continues and the vision of Cambridge Rugby Club as a centre of Rugby excellence is very much alive.

Please support and help us in whatever way you can.
